DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?

We HAVE THE ANSWERS

who can join uw raas?

Anyone! There are no requirements prior to joining UW Raas. No prior dance experience is required, while it may be helpful, it is not necessary.

when are auditions?

Auditions occur within the first two weeks of autumn quarter. We host a workshop event for newcomers to come and learn the dance style, and see if it's something they wish to continue! Auditions are typically two days long. Visit our 'Events' section to be informed about auditions.

why should i join?

There is a list of reasons why you should join!

  • The opportunity to meet new friends and find a team you can call your family.
  • To learn the raas-garba style of dance.
  • To travel across the nation and indulge in with the RAS circuit has to offer.
  • To have fun and make memories that will stick with you forever!

what is the ras circuit?

The collegiate raas circuit brings together garba-raas teams from across the nation to compete at the national scale. Competitions range from Raas All-Stars affiliated bid competitions to non-bid competitions. Teams apply to bid competitions in our fall quarter to be selected. We are incredibly grateful to now be attending bid competitions for two years, and to be a part of the Raas All-Stars affiliated circuit.

Bid competitions typically host 8 competing teams. Competitions consist of a weekend full of fun activities, including a mixer, rehearsals, the show, awards ceremony, and the afterparty. Placing teams will be awarded 4, 2, and 1 bid points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. RAS-affiliated bid competitions also offer monetary compensation for placing teams. Over the course of competition season, from late January to mid-March, teams accumulate bid points. The eight teams holding the greatest total number of bid-points will be offered an invitation to The Raas All-Stars National Championship, where they will compete for the title of ‘National Champions’.
